Vineyards and philosophy
The Perusini Company vinifies exclusively grapes from the Friuli Colli Orientali DOC. The company’s vineyards are on hillside terraces, on Eocene marl (the Friulian ponca), and feature strict training systems (guyot or double inverted) with low yield per vine.
It has always been strongly believed that great wine begins in the vineyard. Careful attention to the work on the land is followed by meticulous handling of the grapes, both in the winery and during drying. The passion that characterized the company in the past today guides the family team in a management approach that combines love for tradition and nature with research.
The study of native grape varieties, which has characterized the Company over the last three generations, and the great care we dedicate to the vineyards allow us to produce wines that best express the individual varieties in our territory.
We like asymmetry from the canon that creates beauty, the timbral note that characterizes places. We like biodiversity, that which is neither standardized nor standardizable. We believe that small companies like ours must preserve the flavors of the genius loci, not coincidentally considered divine by the ancients. It seems to us that the richness of European culture lies in the polyphony of voices from the different regions.
With this spirit, Giacomo Perusini, at the beginning of the 20th century, reselected the Picolit, and Giampaolo Perusini the Ribolla Gialla. In this same spirit, we created our Merlot Etichetta Nera: in a joint project with the University of Udine, we identified, selected, and replanted some ancient clones present in the estate for over 100 years. We have always combined passion and scientific study to achieve excellent results.
